I've gone in circles with PB thru the years over their extremely limited access to my own account info, including poor browser interface for payment exchange. I've always been happy to pay for my own hosting, but I'm afraid I'm pretty done with this company. SO. Once I delete my account with them, quite a lot of the graphics across my blogs will go blank, and I'm just not going to worry about it. You all are welcome to download whatever you can get from my Lexx blogs. I used to offer free hotlinking, so if any of you have my content hotlinked, please be advised that will be affected, as well.

The LEXX Unauthorized book series by Den Valdron

I apologise for posting this. I just wanted to leave a note. After over twenty years of work, I have released the LEXX Unauthorized series as trade paperbacks.

I began working on the LEXX books all the way back in 1999. I was invited by Paul Donovan. Over the next three years, I travelled to and from Halifax and Toronto several times, watched filming, visited production offices, researched and conducted dozens upon dozens of interviews.

The book project went through TV Books, then ECW Press, then Titan Books in England, before being dropped in 2002-2003. Subsequently, in 2006, in anticipation of Dragoncon, I wrote the book I wanted to write, printed off a rough (very rough) draft had it bound, and travelled to Atlanta Georgia to give it, to Brian Downey.

In 2009, some fans released a very limited POD version of sections of the Book.

Along the way, my basement flooded and files were destroyed, I had three hard drive crashes, I relocated twice, changed careers, and went through a lot.

In 2016, I found the original manuscript on an unmarked floppy disk I was about to throw up and began to work on it again. Between 2017 and 2021, revised the manuscript, tried to work on errors, and released LEXX Unauthorized as four ebooks.

In 2022, I finally upgraded the four books to print form, trade paperback, going over them one last time. I have signed and sent to Brian Downey, a complete set. I would have sent the sets to Jeff Hirschield and Paul Donovan, but I can't find them yet.

But it's done. I'm finished. This 24 project is finally finished, I can let it go, I get my life back.

The books are great. I recommend them. Ebook or Trade paperback, whatever you choose.

One more on LEXX. Back a few weeks ago, when I started working on the trade paperbacks, someone said they'd prefer it if I did an audiobook.

Talk about moving the goalposts But okay.

Here you go. LEXX Unauthorized, Backstage at the Dark Zone is now an Audiobook, available on Google Play. I also plan to upload to Kobo.

At this point, no plans to upload the rest of them to audio, unless there is an improbable massive surge in sales.

Music dulls the pain- A look at May

May is the very first person Kai meets on the planet Water in the second episode of the third season of Lexx. She is beautiful and forlorn, bodies tragically strewn around her feet after a battle, holding an ocarina to her mouth in lieu of tears, and tells Kai, "Music dulls the pain."

We have no idea what anything about her means- her tattoo, her jewelry, her clothing, her hairstyle. Notice the tattoo and jewelry kind of style match, though. A few episodes later we find out she is really from the planet Fire. Could those be flames? 

Here is a better image of her tattoo. Note the two planets are semi framed in an arc that separates them from... two universes? And a single point. Are Water and Fire inside their own spacetime? Are they a result of previous happenings? We're not sure from the tattoo, but if the artist is using left to right progression, as seen on cultures in the hemisphere in which this show was created, then it seems to tell a story, hieroglyph style. Note the darker circle eclipses the lighter one, perhaps a clue marking May's loyalty, possibly even what owns her.

A fan post by Dreamer pulls in a close up on her body art and asks other fans if they might know what it means, although I see no comments there. Click this next pic to see the post. After viewing more of season three, we know those are flames licking her body.

The fact that her dress is blue and that her decor could also look like water waves and drops is very subtly suggesting throughout the times that we see her that she is a double agent. We really have no idea until she kisses Prince in front of Stanley, revealing her loyalty.

Later in the season we see her die in flames. She actually seems a bit used to this when you really watch Duke having her prepped for her execution. Even the flammable tar being smeared onto her body looks pre-flame in the brush strokes.

Looking again at May's ocarina (click that for a vid demo), Dreamer comments on the creators' music method to enhance the scene, making another subtle suggestion about May's presence impacting the Lexx crew.

May says music dulls the pain. We really don't know what kind of pain she is talking about. The pain of being a traitor? The pain of remorse? Of memories? Certainly not the fire itself, nothing can dull that, and she doesn't play the ocarina as she burns. She is obviously someone who plays a betrayal role for another person pulling strings. Did she do that in her real life before she came to be on Fire? Let's look at her story and see if we can find more clues about her. Who is May, really? Which face is the real face?

May stands out so uniquely in the Lexx series as supporting character, plot catalyst, and tragedy queen that it's impossible for me to move past her without deeply questioning what's really going on.

Hi, guys, yes, I'm working on a post here this week, but stopped briefly to check my little visitor globe stats because I hadn't in ages. This is a snip from the chart flipped/inverted so I could see bottom of the list out of 161 countries.

I've always gotten surprising visits to this site, but I hadn't noticed Antarctica before. 🤔 Hello, Antarctica.

That visitor globe is awesome (top right column, if not showing up for you then use a different browser, Chrome hates it). You can stop the spin, make the spin faster or slower, make it spin backward, tilt the world differently, and enlarge it. If you click on the little REVOLVERMAPS button, it'll take you to the site where you can play with all the different ways to see stats. This is 2D enlarged and hover shows me the hit info for each bubble.

As you can see, basic location is all I get with that, but over time this is a Lexxellent way to show interest all over the world. I can verify these are not random bot hits because I run several other blogs that don't see this kind of activity at all. I've locked a few controls down to ensure organic catch. Also, those look like random one-offs, but there are dots on the map that score well over 100 visits and more.

Mantrid- Part 2

Originally written 3-15-17 and never published. I'm not done, but you guys have waited long enough. Yes, I do still intend to write much more. Sorry no pix, too continuously busy or swamped, but you know it's killing me not to be here doing what I love most. I'm still being plowed by a freight train called Life, but I'll come back and properly finish this eventually.

~Back to Mantrid~. Kai wants to drag the roly poly space baby to Mantrid with the hope that he can help them help the baby make protoblood, which is a total red flag because Kai never experiences his own motivation, so hairs are already going up on our necks over that. Not a good thing following a suggestion to go dig up a guy who was so dangerous that even His Shadow had him banished onto a barren frozen planet with no other people, save one- a servant.

And now we are back to Vigl. (That is the original original closed caption spelling in the Salter Street print.) We don't know how long Vigl has been with Mantrid, or whether he's there because Mantrid gets a regular string of tech assistants to toy with and kill along with his basic supply refill (nice retirement package, if you want to look on the bright side of not being repurposed instead of banished), but for whatever reasons involved, Vigl is a genius himself and so emotionally unbalanced that he's useless for any other purposes that served His Shadow, apparently being too brilliant to waste on feeding his brain to cluster lizards. His weakness, as Mantrid unkindly taunts him, is little boys, and I assume from his fetish look and weepy devotion to Mantrid that Vigl's addiction to sadomasochism might have been even more vicious on the little boys he loved than Mantrid's own treatment of him. I think Mantrid is attracted to Vigl's utter lack of morality in a sadomasochistic sapiosexual kind of way, and Vigl is totally turned on by Mantrid role playing abuse with him. Mantrid actually proclaims that he likes Vigl, probably not just because Vigl is shockingly awful, but because Mantrid himself is the vilest of the vile, taking his own body apart like toys and rebuilding himself into remote controlled robotic pieces that must be directly synced with something he did to his own brain.

Side note- We actually don't know that Mantrid took his own body apart, but it would hardly be surprising. I could jaunt into a whole new background idea with a list of things that could have brought him to this point, or I could just go on. Maybe I'll do that another day.

What's more alarming is that we find out Mantrid has been around even longer than Kai has, and while Kai was technically dead for 2008 years before we see him again as a Divine Assassin, Mantrid assuredly was not. Mantrid's life span could arguably be tied to being a top scientist, called a Bio-Vizier, on the Cluster. He knows more about protoblood and Insect essence than any other person who's ever existed in the whole Light Universe except for his teacher, Supreme Bio-Vizier Brizon, and both undoubtedly knew about the Giga Shadow growing beneath the surface, essentially helping revive the nearly extinct Insect race up to that point.

Kai knows all this because he's got all the memories, so of course, he wants to drag a roly poly space baby to Mantrid and revive it because he's being prompted by the Insect essence he carries, as yet unknown to the Lexx crew.

Still with me? Some of you are already running back to your TVs for rewatches.

Mantrid's last tie to humanity is Vigl. I'm sure Mantrid could have cared less about the fates of the little boys Vigl tortured to death with his sex addiction, but he taunts him continually with it, emotionally punishing Vigl over and over while Vigl weeps his love and loyalty back to an uncaring Mantrid, a perfect loop of emotional sadomasochism. This scene hints at how contemptuously Mantrid sees and feels about the human race in a society that he helped retain severe restrictions over while humans were being fed to both the Lexx and the Giga Shadow the whole time, and Mantrid knew this. What does this say about Mantrid's own fetishes? Mantrid is sexually impotent as a head on a floating jar, yet he's the one Kai looks for to revive a race of beings. How potent is that?

If Mantrid had spared one shred of empathy for Vigl's victims as a fellow human being while they were banished together in solitude, things might have turned out very differently when the Lexx arrived, but Mantrid despised humanity, just as he despised his own limitations and being stuck with nothing on the edge of nothing going nowhere. He used Vigl's fragile emotional imbalance to cement a cultish devotion that defined the moment from which everything in the two universes would change forever.

Because --->>>> Vigl's twisted devotion is responsible for tipping the scales and ultimately starting the avalanche that eventually breaks the time cycles.

(If you've been following my posts, you've noticed I believe this is the time loop that breaks the cycles of time beyond repair, which is what makes this loop so important to the overall story. It's not canon, but it makes sense and doesn't mess with future episodes and seasons. See The Dark Zone and the Cycles of Time)

Jumping right in, my first question is How long Mantrid has been banished? He knows about Kai, so it was after the Brunnen-G were wiped out. We're also not sure how long it's been since Lexx blew up the Cluster, and whether that has anything to do with supply shipments possibly stopping. Mantrid has no contact with the outside world, no way to get updates unless he gets some kind of news dropped in with the supply shipments, which could come from anywhere in the League of 20,000, but I'm betting not since Mantrid is so highly ranked that surely no one else knows he's even there, so I'm going to guess his supply shipments have stopped. Is he surprised to see Kai? Did he know the Lexx was finally being grown on the Cluster? How long has Mantrid been out here? Long enough to construct an escape pod and a few drone arms out of what scraps he got or found, apparently, and even longer enough for he and Vigl to have a history of arguments over whether his mind transfer experiment would ultimately fail, so probably a number of years, at the very least.

Also, did Mantrid already possess Insect essence? How is he still alive? Did he steal the essence and was allowed to live (or even become unkillable, like I purport Giggerota to be) because all his memories would forever be contained in that essence and passed on to others if he were killed? Can he inherently transfer? Is there protoblood in that jar???

Ok, ok, let's slow down and go over this.

Mantrid already had a plan in place to try combining his own consciousness with a hard drive in a machine, and thanks to that Insect essence and Vigl's twisted devotion to Mantrid, the greatest mass murderer in two whole universes was created and unleashed.

that would be able to remote control the drone arms he'd already created to manufacture more and more drone arms. Over a little time and a seemingly endless supply of material in the universe, Mantrid built and built until he built so big out of raw materials from all the planets and debris he found and shredded along the way that it wasn't long until he could siphon energy straight of stars and use it to extrude even more raw material and create even more drone arms on a super mega giga scale. Soon stars didn't just wink out, entire nebulae vanished, and the death of all things became imminent as Mantrid converted all of it into remote controlled drone arms.

You know how Borg programming was about seeking out and reprogamming all sentient life to become Borg? And you know how in Stargate SG-1 replicators would tear apart and convert all material into more replicators? Think bigger. Imagine a runaway system turning an entire universe into remote controlled drone arms. Pretty sure not even the Jedi and The Emperor himself with all his armies could have stopped Mantrid. The Death Star would have been swallowed whole and deconstructed at some point. If you could cross all the streams and use all the armadas and strengths and armies of all the universes together, no one could have beaten Mantrid. It would be the ultimate flameout, though. What? Oh, what about the Q Continuum, you ask. I laugh. That was one of the worst plot devices ever dreamed up, requiring very little effort to work with. They barely damaged subspace with their little tiff. Mantrid remains the ultimate megalomaniac, regardless of what universe one wishes to debate.

Not to spoil too much (haha, how old is this show again?), but Mantrid's final destructive move was gathering all the mass he'd amassed (sorry, pun, couldn't help it) together, forcing the universe to collapse into a smaller and smaller state until the Lexx had nowhere to flee and had to turn and face Mantrid, their only hope lying in tricking Mantrid long enough to distract him from their intent to flee through the wormhole back to the Dark Zone that the collapse would create. Unfortunately, Mantrid was far too brilliant to not anticipate this, and snuck aboard the Lexx, crossing over to the Dark Zone with them barely ahead of everything he'd turned the Light Universe into collapsing in a huge crunch. But fortunately, he wasted time in mockery instead of starting all over again in secret. Guess what- I won't tell you how that ended. If you haven't see Lexx, go watch it.




We could jaunt into Mantrid's psychological profile and reflect on why Brizon found him tedious, but as brilliant and capable as Brizon was, even he fell to the redundant overkill of Mantrid's single-minded focus. Megalomania 2.0 trumps intellectual arrogance and easily outstrips a weakness for remaining intact and using other humans to stay alive. As nasty as Brizon was, at least he could be negotiated with. Mantrid only wanted to win, even if winning meant not having anyone around afterward to appreciate the fact that he'd won. It would seem Mantrid had managed to strip himself of the burden of being human in order to ultimately triumph over the Insects- wait. Back up. What did I just say? Did we just uncover Mantrid's motivation? Was he so intent on winning because he'd been so scourged of his soul feeding his fellow human race to the monster? Mantrid may have enjoyed his work, likely because he excelled at that sort of genetic tinkering, at any cost, but we do have to admit he didn't just crush humanity, he finally beat the Insects. No more sides, no more good or bad, no more doublespeak, no more political and religious agendas, no more anything. Mantrid erased it all from existence so thoroughly that there was no more record it had even having happened, and then he wound up on Fire with his memory erased, a fitting retribution for someone who put salvaging his memories via data storage above the fate of an entire universe.

I've been told I overthink things. Let's take a break while we absorb that. I find that verse helps organize my thinking.

I guess that's putting it lightly. I have fun thinking about Mantrid. I thought for a long time that his extreme motivation after the transfer might have come from the Insect essence, because Insects went after humanity for thousands of years. However, we can't forget the indomitable human spirit (I'll root for a psychotic human over an Insect any day), the possibilities that were fueled along Mantrid's past, and what might happen to the human mind when it is already psychotic before it's uploaded into a machine in combination with Insect programming, because that's what essence is, a metaphysical software program passed from one generation to the next. Mantrid's vehemence wasn't just Insect based, it was originally psychotic human based, and combining the two inside a computerized machine was a disaster. Forget survival instinct, because physical flesh was gone. Forget which race to choose sides over, neither one matters to him. All Mantrid cared about was the ultimate definition of life, and instead of killing himself with ennui over the depression of it like so many do, he motivated right past KILLALLTHETHINGS to turning the entire universe into a game to win. Nothing else mattered. In a world with all kinds of things to do forever and ever, Mantrid opted to simplify omniscience into nothing more than incorporating the entire universe into himself for no other reason than reaching an end to incorporating. He didn't even have competition. No, Mantrid's motivation had nothing to do with Insects or even his past- just blame it on a faulty upload and a crazy runaway super focused single-minded program loop with a personality glitch. Mantrid's sole definition of being alive was answerable only in terms of continuing the program.

My favorite visual of Mantrid is us first seeing him alone in banishment, and us last seeing him alone in the Tunnels on Fire, an icon for being torn apart from humanity itself. I'd like to continue my Mantrid thoughts in another post, hopefully coming a lot sooner than this one did.

Rutger Hauer was part of so many projects, in many of our lives for decades in one way or another. After so many other big and rather serious roles, I was tickled seeing him in Lexx as Bog, the leader of the planet Klaagya, but very ill and quite funny with parasitic infection by the time we meet him in the show. Bog was unique out of the many roles Rutger played, a true cult favorite in his own right as anyone can see perusing twitter this evening, so many tweets saying Bog was the fave in lists of project titles. Like others mentioned, I still hear Bog every time I see the word "pattern". Like others, Bog is my favorite Rutger role.

I'm really coming back here some day, I swear...

Two days ago I received a message via VK (Russian facebook) from Alexy Zhikov. That message contained links to 2 pdf docs prefaced with the greeting "Hello! This is my draft work on the Brunnen ji civilization. Waiting for your feedback." The first document I opened had a title page, extensive chapter outline, and a total of 309 pages.

We have a very serious Lexx fan here.

I'm going to share the first page. I have not yet read through the entire document, but am very much looking forward to it. I probably slaughtered it a bit running it through a translator, so please forgive if there are problematic areas. I am particularly thrilled that this topic is being given academic level attention, which is what I've always dreamed of doing.

In 2017, the science fiction series Lex (Lexx) celebrated its twentieth anniversary. For more than 20 years, many works have been written (film reviews, interview, essay), compiled electronic chronological table on the series ("Lexx Time Line "D. Darrow), two electronic online encyclopedias (wikiprojects) on to the fictional world of "Lex" (English and Russian). But while there is no more or less detailed study of such an important artistic image as an extinct civilization of brunnen ji.

In general, speaking directly, on the topic of brunnen-ji from large-scale works only two social articles have been created at the moment D. Darrow and review article in the English wikiproject. In addition, in the available materials there is no multilateral approach and the widest possible coverage of facts, but there is only a superficial description of them (as in wikiprojects) or point analysis of some separate (geographical, military, technological) nuances associated with the culture of brunnen ji (like D. Darrow). Therefore, the author decided to fill this gap in lecture and devote his scientific work complex research of Brunnen ji and civilization built by them.

To make it all very clear in terms of how to investigate, for what and with what tools, before starting the search, you should specify objectives, methodological basis and objectives of the work.

The task of this work is as follows: to describe as widely as possible and in detail features of formation and development (natural, historical, cultural and etc.) of a fictional territorial community - the Brunnen ji civilization. AND This task, given the specifics of the series, its internal contradictions and understatement - the task is quite difficult. First, the story of Brunnen ji shown in "Lex" inconsistently, fragmentary. This creates a series of difficulties when trying to reconstruct it. Secondly, the boundaries of the settlement Brunnen-ji - with one side, as well as social ideology and related systems - with the other hand, judging by the plot of the film, underwent a change. (The second time I ran this paragraph through google translate said 'underwent changes'.)

Hi all the other fans, I see you all over the world 😊

Since I'm here posting, here is a personal update for Lexxperience.

Some of you may be aware of some of the social medias' restrictions that have been going on throughout the year on certain political viewpoints, and I've been playing cat and mouse with my accounts to avoid them being shut down. I normally give a wide berth to politics, but it's been a bit irresistible with the anons standing up worldwide to globalism and the big tease over whether ETs are involved, nevermind the wild AI and robot stories. By the way, French fans, I hope you're ok. Looked a bit scary from over here. I don't know about the rest of you, our news is horrid, very controlled and we're doing our best to find out more but they keep shutting down accounts spreading real news from outside the mainstream narrative.

We live in very Lexxy times.

I decided to extremely restrict my personal facebook while I purge it of 5 years of useless and outdated content that I didn't create myself. I changed over to a standby twitter account and finally put my Lexx hashtagging into its own account. I closed around ten useless accounts (sorry, tumbr, it's not you it's me 💔) and I joined a discord group of anons, and tonight started verifying with keybase. I'm afraid I've missed a lot going on with the real Lexx world and the fans last few months, especially Winter Con, and I apologize. Also, my personal blog has moved. 😐 Again.

G+ announced they will be shutting their pages down this coming spring, so I've been regrouping my web presence and reviewing my investments into my dotcoms and domain hosting. I'm also being strongly encouraged to finish a writing contract I set up 5 years ago, and between all that and moderating a server, I'm a bit all over the map.

But I'm still here. 😁 And more is coming.

Kai and spicy shrimp

I've had maybe 4 Lexx dreams in my entire life. Many fans talk about having Lexx dreams, mine are extremely rare, considering that I remember decades of dreams.

I had one last night. It felt important, and I think it was given to me so I'd reach out to the fandom, since I've been so careful to keep my things separated. This is not a new direction for Lexxperience, just a one-off standalone post.

Kai, Xev, and Stanley were discussing Prince. Something had to be done. There were lots of shady politics, but what I really remember was the food. Kai couldn't eat, but encouraged me to try a spicy shrimp dish, which I sampled while listening to Xev interjecting between Stanley's outbursts about something over my head.

You can decide for yourselves what Earth country each character might represent. I got the feeling Stanley represented the Western Hemisphere, Xev represented European countries, and Kai represented Asian countries. Prince was destroying the whole world and each part of the world wanted it to stop.

I woke up to this article. Secret Societies and Planet Earth

In this article I noticed that Japan's government had a notable change announcement on 11-11-18.

In Japan, meanwhile, a new party has been formed to restore samurai rule, the announcement was made on the 11th of November 2018 the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War.

The Japanese were among the winners of the First World War but were mostly snubbed by the Treaty of Versailles and further alienated when the League of Nations has snubbed their proposal to prohibit racial and religious discrimination.

The appointment of a new Emperor of Japan next year will mark the end of secret colonial rule in that country and the beginning of a new era, say Japanese right-wing sources. As part of this the Bank of Japan will be nationalized, they say.

Recall that in October Trump said that the Federal Reserve Council was “the greatest threat“, from this we can guess that the US and Japanese right-wing forces are preparing for the control of privately-owned Central Banks.

Spicy shrimp, anyone?

That article is the fastest way I could possibly sum up what I've been watching happen all over the world over the last year. A lot of change is coming, and it will affect us all. This article is only the tip of information that is showing up on the internet. These are not conspiracies. These are people rising up against the global domination and enslavement of the One World Bank that holds us all in debt slavery.

I am among the Lightworkers in the Q movement. I have been getting information for some time. I care very much about the Lexx fandom, since I believe (said here for the first time) that it was prophetic, even if it wasn't meant to be. I have said in the past that I believe the reason Lexx got dropped and even buried to the point of oblivion for awhile is because it wakes people up. Lexx makes people think about the parts of world government that don't work, that uses, abuses, and kills people, that holds us as slaves on a TV planet and eventually 'decapitates' us all. (Lexx had rows of heads before a Lady Gaga video ever did. Something to think about.)

Lexx was not received well in the United States due to graphic sexual themes and weird story telling, often referred to as the soft porn of scifi, but continues to be a cult favorite around the rest of the world. Lexx boldly took scifi film to Orwellian depths it never went before with cannibalism, mass genocide in the guise of government Order, sex slavery, and repurposing humans into serviceable robot parts. What happens when ordinary people get hold of the Lexx? While other space themed story arcs revolve around military, Lexx tips revolution over and blows it up.



Season one of Lexx is a collection of 4 movies starting out on the Cluster, capital of the League of 20,000 Planets and judicial headquarters for His Divine Shadow. The Lexx, bioengineered and grown on the Cluster to become the ultimate weapon near the end of over 6000 years of war, is a 'big bug' that can fly through space, blow up planets, and talk to its captain. Fans fall in love with Lexx because it thinks like a bug and remains innocent of every devastation it creates on command, a leading character in its own right. Guest actors in first season include Barry Bostwick as Thodin, Tim Curry as Poet Man, Rutger Hauer as Bog, and Malcolm McDowell as Yottskry.

Season two of Lexx changes to a television series that continues immediately with backstory and plunges headlong into frightening disaster. A character change grips viewers while the series launches into a delightful conflict of bawdy fun and grim reality that mock our crew mercilessly in directions that will leave you spinning. This season is everything you ever wanted to see go wrong in Trek or any other scifi series, and the creators have a lot of fun coloring outside the lines. The most popular episode of Lexx with viewers around the world at 2.18 is Brigadoom, filmed as a theater experience with a separate soundtrack, with rare handmade costuming and an ancient Russian sounding fight song, according to Russian fans.

Season three of Lexx is very dire. The Lexx has drifted without food for 4000 years while the crew is in stasis and becomes caught in the gravity well between two planets, Fire and Water. The entire season is fraught with mysteries and dangers, love and deception, navigating the torments of hell and the delights of heaven trying to stop Prince from gaining control of the Lexx. Never has scifi so beautifully choreographed philosophy, bureaucracy, and even the hint of religion into such a masterful soap style drama, with stunning landscapes and what was groundbreaking CGI for the time period.

Season four of Lexx is a discourteous romp around the Earth when Lexx finds the Little Blue Planet. The entire series finale is a very tongue in cheek mockery, chock full of stereotypes and bad puns, even inside jokes about the scifi film industry. Fans scatter in all directions between it being cute, ridiculous, rude, and outright genius. Season four is the most often quoted as least favorite, but if you are a mistie (MST3K fan), you totally get the fun the creators had with the filming, with spins on everything from alien possession to Godzilla to where vampires came from, and much more. Unfortunately, Americans were the butt of the political joking (along with the Pope), so between that and the risque 'soft porn', it disappeared from American television networks never to be seen again, until streaming tv came along.



Even though Lexx ended with season 4, the creators inserted hope for a continuing story at the very end. Who knows, maybe someday there will be more Lexx, especially with so much inherent content for prequels.

Still Lexxing, I know it's hard to see. Let's catch up.

• The 5th season green light April Fool's joke blew up into a stupid rumor that got a few of us pretty grumpy. I had to contact IMDb personally over it. Not happy that an opportunistic 'fan' was able to put erroneous info in as fact based on one of my blog titles and it wasn't vetted properly. There is no season 5, guys. This joke is over 5 years old, it was funny, now it's just a drag and you would. not. believe. the location hits I've gotten in my stats on that.
• The LittleLexx.net 'bored' has been uber rescued and will never go away now. It is currently being super tech salvaged so you may see it blink in and out of existence, but it's still there, and every intention is to bring it back to usable status.
• I have several drafts started in this blog that date back up to 3 years ago. Part of the reason I have stalled is because I keep being tagged or privately contacted and pushed by uber fans on social medias and I just put it down and walked off. I'm not doing this for anyone but me, it's MY hobby out of pocket, and I'm also upset with both a tech issue and life issue throwing one particular curve ball at me, mainly I no longer have the kind of tech control over my house that I used to. Kind of like Gru in the Despicable movies, if you've ever seen those. Good thing tiny people are so cute, lol.

This blog history goes back to 2004. I started out on Xanga, disappeared for personal reasons discussed on another blog, came back with no intention of Lexxing again but apparently long-ago readers stat bombing me talked me back into it, migrated my content after the Xanga server move looked like a shipwreck, developed a Lexxperience hub on social medias, and am now in discussion about housing with a developing sci-fi website. A handful of you are aware I turned down writing for other sci-fi sites (some that would pay me) and chose not to jump into celebrity owned hubs (like Nerdist) because I want to stay in control of my content, and over several years have put nearly $2000 into Lexxing out of pocket. I created a mission statement, set up disclaimers, and I toe the line for the fandom. Lexx online is my hobby, but if I'm going to share, I'm doing it legally.

I do not own Lexx, have never been paid or employed by anyone related to Lexx, and I don't purport to speak for anyone regarding Lexx properties. I am a Lexx fandom historian, a character and plot speculator, but not an actor follower. I have incidental interactions and happenstances, but I'm way too busy with real life to dig up anything and everything related to actors who breathed anywhere around Lexx. That doesn't mean I don't appreciate fans who put the work into that, I very much appreciate how that takes many dedicated hours and that work is their own. I hope to eventually catalog as many fans as I can find still working on Lexx content to collect into a library, but that isn't priority right now. Since I am in touch with so much Lexx fandom around the world, I am in a position to inventory (again), which may or may not affect property refurbish, and at this point, after seeing so many people fight over that, I am burned out with that idea. Anyone with enough money can haul it out into court and disentangle the property, but until that happens and some kind of settlement is reached, we probably won't be seeing more merch. I still contend Lexx was buried for other reasons, and that these reasons didn't kill it so much as save it from annihiliation. It wasn't out of print very long, like so many scifi shows were for awhile.

I'd like to thank one person in particular for stimulating my personal growth in this fandom. I was very publicly personally challenged and wound up becoming known and remembered over it. I don't use it to leverage myself, but I do own my history. Many years of thought have brought me to the conclusion that if I do this for me, I also do this for the fandom, and the fandom is a living thing of its own. Fans may come and go, but the fandom lives on.

I am still here, and I'm not done yet. The fandom is growing, and I know this because I am watching this on the medias. It's time to Lexxperience Lexx again.

international fandom under mistaken political fire

Just received an email that my Twitter account has been flagged as part of the Russian- US presidency scandal investigation, even though i never retweet anything related to actual politics. Please be aware I've been gently warned that my account could be closed if deemed dangerous, and that anyone associated with me might be investigated, as well. We all know I have strongly associated and supported Lexx fans in Russia since 2005, and I've shared on my personal blog that my family history goes back to Russia via Mennonite migration and land grants. I don't generally care for politics and avoid dragging that junk into my feeds, but the simple association with Russian accounts is enough to flag me. I guess it's getting real, and ignoring it doesn't keep my personal playgrounds safe from conspiracy. If you see my social media accounts shut down, it's not because I'm doing it. I did make my personal Facebook private this month, but it's unrelated. As I have always said, if fans want to copy paste my writing and whatever photos, I would thank you for link backs, but also just do it in case this gets stupidly ridiculous. I've been saying for years fandoms lead in world diplomacy, and fandoms will soon be razed as illegal content rippers as an excuse to control people. I believe in world fandom families, and I pray this doesn't get out of hand. I am one of the most benign people there is in Twitter, and yet I have been flagged in this nationwide investigation. Hopefully that email is all I get and nothing else happens, but in case the govt starts shutting accounts down, I wanted to say I love you guys, and be Lexxy with each other. - Janika Banks

And here is where the interest is coming from.

In one scant week, a world fandom contorted itself over a book about Lexx. Keep in mind that blogger stats are super vague. I get much better incoming from statcounter, which is also impressive.

I just demonstrated why a Lexx reboot would be profitable. Lexx is 20 years old and is still being monitored by a world fandom. This may not look like big numbers, but having been in and out of fandoms since 1994, I guarantee you this is impressive for a 20 years old cult show that went out of print and disappeared for awhile and has absolutely no representation outside of a fan network. One week.

This fandom will never die.

The earliest documentation of Den Valdron writing a Lexx book that I've found goes back to the SadGeeezer site.

• Lexx books??- "The Valdron book has a release date of August 23, 2002" You can read further history about what happened in that forum thread.
• Valdron's Lexx Book on Ebay- More info about the history. I think this was a one-off bound copy, with hopes it would still one day be available to the entire fandom.
• Lexx Book Series- Since then, fans have inquired from time to time over the years across several forums.

Since then, that book has been talked about around the world for about 15 years. So now this book is finally available! 😁I bought mine from Smashwords for $2.99, a very reasonable price after waiting 15 years since I first found out about it, lol.

Besides blogging about Lexx, a few readers might know I occasionally do film and book reviews and splash them around haphazardly because I'm not a serious monetized blogger. I have friends who do that, some of them doing well and publishing their own books now, and one even being quoted on a movie jacket. Valdron's Lexx book has my full attention, and I have no doubt that I just hit gold.

"So, in a way, this is where it all really begins, with a couple of computer nerds sitting in an office, brainstorming about who they could interest in their supercomputer, in order for them having to justify it in the first place."

Some of you know I'm a little bit obsessed with film history across fandoms, and I'm already riveted. The first couple of pages might not feel necessary to average Lexx fans, but feel vital to some of us who soak up IMDb with coffee drips in our IVs kind of thing. Lexx was known to be cutting edge with its CGI at the time of filming, so I'm finding it really cool getting so much background on the tech that inspired the Beans- "Later, when LEXX was being written, one of the guidelines that Gigeroff and Hirschfield got was not to worry about limitations of CGI but just to write anything they could imagine. There's a kind of unfettered freedom there that's both exhilarating and scary. It's definitely working without a net. But at the same time, it opened the door for an explosion of creativity."

I am quoting for non-English fans to read through translator softwares. I'm not sure yet if the book will download and translate, or whether it will become available in other languages. I've already been privately asked about this by non-English fans, and right now I don't know. Much of Lexx fandom is in Russia, Germany, France, Brazil, and surprisingly, China. I've documented over 100 countries coming in from direct search engine hits to my Lexx blogs here and on my GrandFortuna Xanga site.

I won't comb through and quote a lot from here on, not rewriting the book for you guys through my own translator widget, sorry. 😊 If you'd like more info about language options, please contact Den Valdon on Facebook.

One note of interest, according to Valdron's interviews, was that a Lexx computer game was already being tossed around and in partial development before any of the movies were filmed. Fans around the world have asked why there was never a computer game, which would have been a great marketing angle. Computer games and film cross over all the time nowadays, as do comics, so Lexx was ahead of its time with their techability.

I'm reminding myself not to spoil the book. You guys really need to get this and read it yourselves. I've barely gotten started, so I'm going to have to really hold back. The rest of this is review-only, no more paraphrasing or reveals. I'll come back and assess after I'm done with the whole book.

Ok, no I won't. I can't help it. Still reading.

I'm liking Valdron's writing style. He's got great sentence structure and good command of language. A bit of back and forth in verb tense and a few typos that get missed by software checking might make translation a little wonky in a few places, but for the most part, this is a very good read.

I very much loved finding out that part of Paul's inspiration for the Lexx was simply liking bugs, and that bug motifs are popular in anime and manga. That explains some of the incoming I get on my blog posts. The variety of interest in this show really does shine across cultures around the world.

Ok, I've gotta quote this one, part of their mission statement- "They wanted to get completely away from the benevolent mediocrity of Star Trek." 😁 How many times in my own Star Trek review rants have I complained about explaining everything out in conference rooms? I've said over and over, you hit the ground running with Lexx and they don't stop and wait for you to catch up, which I find extremely refreshing and a pleasurable nod to viewer intellect. They definitely didn't dumb it down.

I'm currently at the idyllic Monty Python inspiration slash small group hanging out at the beach thing, "plotting away to revolutionize science fiction and upset all the apple carts", and I'm wondering what it must've been like being Stephen Turnbull's kid growing up around that. I would have been in heaven.

The "Show Me the Money" section is wonderful, my aspienado bread and butter kind of info obsession. And of course, Lexx fans all over the globe have researched and schemed themselves silly trying to get this show back out into reboot. I still find it difficult to believe Lexx completely disappeared from print for several years, given its worldwide interest.

I shared that to back up the fandom support still going on long after Lexx was over and the property sold off. The interest is still very real.

Back to Valdron's book.

Valdron's Viacom, Inc history is excellent, but I'd like to add that Viacom was part of the Vivendi reduction in the media monopoly around the time of Lexx. Anyone else notice that the original Salter Street prints include French in the language options? Vivendi shows up in the credits in my original VHS recordings, and Vivendi is brought up in relation to the SciFi channel in the SadGeezer forum around the time of Friday Prime, the lineup of which included Lexx. In his book, Valdron expands on the continuing media aquistion history behind Lexx launching into film, which I especially appreciate. There is a lot of confusion in the fandom around how the Canadian-German production worked and who all had hands in the the project. I think this will greatly help fans understand why it's not so simple getting a reboot back off the ground.

By the end of Chapter One I was on the edge of my seat, visually riding along. Valdron seems especially gifted at breathing life into the mundane background paperwork info, making it so human that I caught myself holding my breath as I read up to the green light. Every bit of this was worth waiting 15 years to read. And there's more!

Chapter Two- Every time I see Les Kriszan's name I remember that's Sylvia's DAD, and I'm friends with her on facebook. Haven't seen her in awhile, but I love that I got to be friends with her. We get more background about the demo reel and the reason why the TV show title was changed a couple of times.

Chapter Three is Paul Donovan candy. So many fans have wanted more about Paul Donovan. I think he's as popular as the actors with the older Lexx fandom, if not more so. He's a Canadian film maker Cinderella story, absolutely charming. The way Valdron tells it sounds very much like Paul's story would make a great Lifetime MOW. Buy this book. Valdron also touches a bit of Halifax history, a name held in reverence in the Lexx fandom, along with putting a short spotlight on Canadian film funding history leading up to Lexx, resulting in a very important visual coming through about Donovan's history in filmmaking that gratuitously exposes the question "But why?", especially on a few of the more inside jokes filmed during season 4 of Lexx. Since I'm a film history fan, I immensely enjoyed the pre-history before Lexx was born into film, and I guarantee it helps make sense for fans who to this day scratch their heads wondering what in the world was in Paul's head. At that point, I realized that Donovan has left the same kind of time stamped cultural mark with Lexx that Rocky Horror did in its time, a glance through a time tunnel of vision, as it were. No wonder Lexx has become the cult classic that it is, kept alive for decades in a worldwide underground fandom.

I was well into Chapter Four before I remembered I'm writing a review, very swept along, but this bit grabbed me by the collar and I need to share it- "The script for Gigashadow wasn't approved until December 22, 1995, but the episode was shot in January, 1996. It seems insane to try and budget and plan, cast, costume and build sets for a four million dollar film with less than two weeks script approval." (Approval had to come from Showtime.) "On the other hand, Paul Donovan was practically a guerilla film maker, used to just going ahead and doing it. Now he was getting continually dragged off to meetings and story conferences in Los Angeles, meeting with people who knew less about his project than they did about their morning espresso..." Guys, this is competitive with Sam Raimi level film history, and my respect is growing exponentially as I'm reading. What makes and breaks in the entertainment industry has come to hold quite a lot of water in developing world political history as it marches across borders and takes over diplomacy with sales, Marvel lately being a great case in point. As Canada had a strong foot in the door of world military history, so have they apparently had a foot in the door of world entertainment history. We hold film creators on pedestals in the United States, so how did Paul Donovan slip past us? I'm still stunned that Lexx disappeared from the Friday Prime lineup on the SciFi Channel, never to be mentioned by SyFy again. What happened???

Sorry, I'm so Lexxcitable. Back to Valdron's book. By the middle of chapter six I was nearly crushed thinking how sad it feels to see such wonderful review writing coming out so tragically late to a world that no longer cares what was breaking through entertainment ice 20 years ago. Reviews and recaps are a dime a dozen nowadays, not even worth that because everyone and their dogs are doing it and you can find a hundred free quickies per TV episode with the push of a little search engine button now. Entire paragraphs in this book would have been gilded in gold and translated and quoted lovingly across a world of fan sites two decades ago, and today they are like finding treasure that barely anyone will notice in a thick soup of automated media bots regurgitating algorithmic overkill. Go. Buy. This. Book.

I paused there because I keep saying go buy the book, well, you can EASILY go get that book now. If you clicked some of those links you probably discovered he's a scifi superfan with other great stuff, too. Ok, back to this book.

I've arrived to a section called Taking it the Lexx Level, and I'm reliving scenes as set design discussion rolls into my eyes. This is the kind of stuff I love eating for breakfast. One of the reasons Lexx delightfully intrigues me is exactly what Valdron is saying here, and if this book had been out years sooner, I can already tell you I'd have been satisfied enough not to feel the need to create a fan site to talk about this stuff myself. I'm especially loving the words 'brutality' and 'functionality' and the way Valdron is kicking the tires on spaceships in other shows. The love that went into the realism in Lexx is, point blank, what makes the show for me. They don't flinch. I'm pretty sure Lucas didn't have the ocular parabolae (see what I did there) to muss up his sets, but Valdron is kinder than I am about it. Sort of. I mean, it would've been kinder not to bring it up, but what the hell, let's drag Star Wars into this, too. We've already mocked Star Trek, so why not, right. Comparing Jean Luc Picard and Han Solo to Stanley Tweedle immediately demonstrates why fans personally identify with the harsher realities of Lexx. That Valdron is able to give us visual inspirations around the Salter Street region gives thinking about Lexx and the Dark Zone so much more depth. "Walking around Halifax or St. John you see homes and buildings that are centuries old, you see cities that are built in forced compromise with their geography. This forced compromise appears endlessly in LEXX's interiors, and in the mechanical and biological design of the series." Like Lexx says, "Ouch."

I wanna quote the entire Big Hard Bugs... section and I'm totally holding back. How many fans have worked on backstory for Insect culture and the Insect Wars? I feel like this is Paul Donovan's personal Galaxy Quest hell, frenzied fans wanting more canon, more story, more information, and the Beans all like Yeah, we just thought it up one day *take swigs of beer*. And then Valdron comes along and whispers a disturbing paragraph about the sheer alienness of Insects and suddenly I want time travel to be possible so we can all go back and gang up in Halifax and make it happen, dammit.

*sigh*

Because no one else seems to be making it happen, do they? 🙄

K, now I'm cheering. Valdron just compared the Gigashadow to the Death Star, omg. 😁

I would love to see a review comparison to other living ships, like Moya from Farscape. Moya had restraints, Lexx's entire physiology is forcibly jutted and hoisted. Sorry, getting carried away. Valdron is to Lexx what Poe is to Halloween. I never want this to end.

Chapter 7 is like finding the original tablet with the ten commandments on them. The Snarkalecs have a set of guidelines for watching scifi shows, and I feel like I just found the Original Gods of SciFi Snark or something. We get a complete set of The Rules regarding filming written by the Supreme Beans themselves, and yes, I was loling. 😂 I'd personally like to get this entire set of rules printed onto a poster and hang it on a prominent wall in my home. If I ever get the spare cash, I will.

I am currently about halfway through the book. Some of you have already thrown things at your screens because I'm not really telling you much, and some of you are struggling with international purchases and feeling frustrated. I might come back and add more later on, or I might move on, but if you are combing the internet for Lexx and actually found this post, there is much better info in Valdron's book, so go hit some links. He put an amazing amount of work into it and then had to work around publishing walls, so thank goodness the world is changing so fast and ebooks are everywhere now, right?

Speculation on Boron-7, Insect technology, and the scientists who engineered the political lockdown through religion

I prodigiously use the Lexxicon throughout my blogging as point of reference info. It is Lexxcellent for tiny canon details when one is doing research, and very useful to anyone wondering anything about the show.

I have brought up that I think Boron 7 was likely a lab planet used by His Shadow's scientists to experiment on manipulating DNA in every way possible. The only things we know about the Boron system are that Giggerota came from Boron 7 and that the Luvliner was near Boron 13, a big moon.

One of the bigger picture conundrums with the Lexx series is that one Insect managed to subjugate a League of 20,000 Planets and further terrorized an extensive part of the Light Universe. We see at the beginning of season two how Rockhound became the first His Divine Shadow, and I have briefly speculated on both motive and method. I have thought quite a lot on how the subjugation actually happened, and I'm about to point some fingers.

Using what we know about Bio-Viziers and especially Grand Bio-Vizier Mantrid and Supreme Bio-Vizier Brizon, it seems obvious that scientists were the key to His Shadow's rule across a universe. These scientists not only knew everything about Insects and His Shadow's ultimate goal to bring a race of Insects back to life, but helped him do it in such heinous ways that one must necessarily wonder why.

We find out in season two that both Mantrid and Brizon were far older than Kai, who was over 2000 years old as an undead assassin. They were both experts on Divine Assassin creation and maintenance. In the very first movie I Worship His Shadow, we see humans were obviously repurposed in a variety of ways even before they were dead as part of their judicial sentencing. The scientists behind this were geniuses, able to manipulate human body parts like toys, and quite able to make them function in any capacity. This observation lends to the conclusion that His Shadow chose a unique quality in his scientists that enabled them to not only stomach what they were doing, but delight in it. They were carefully chosen psychotic geniuses given promises of eternal life, and naturally they excelled at reestablishing a new Divine Order so that they could play without hindrance.

Among their genetic manipulations were bioships using lost Insect technology, human species reorientation, robotic humans, and reusable dead humans. We know by season one's fourth movie Giga Shadow that the last Insect had been kept alive and growing, and that its Essence, protoblood, and probably tissues were used to integrate technology and humans into a new strictly governed society.

The Cluster was the seat of judgement for His Shadow, a small planetoid that deceptively housed a hugely growing Insect that eventually broke free. Think about how many 'big bugs' must have been attempted, and where the Megashadow and Foreshadow were grown, along with the Lexx's DNA being perfected. The massive experimentation had to have happened on another planet, and I can imagine huge hangars, warehouses, labs, and clinics filled with coding tech specialists and equipment, bio coding specialists and equipment, and likely extensive 'housing' for potential subjects. Using Giggerota as an example, evidently inter- and extra- species manipulation and breeding programs were under way in attempts to design a new Divine Assassin, hungry for meat, alive and programmed to reproduce. We don't know if Giggy was a prototype gone wrong or one of many, but she was a problem. It's possible Brizon designed her, or that competitive Mantrid ventured out on his own and designed her, but we never find out. We do know Mantrid was banished at some point and that Giggy was taken to the Cluster for execution, so it's possible these two characters have everything to do with one another (indirectly), and that these particular experimentations might be part of the big personal problem between Mantrid and Brizon. The only problem with this line of thought is the time jag, since Mantrid has apparently been banished for quite some time by the beginning of season two, and Brizon seems to have been semi-retired later in season two. Mantrid and Brizon could have had their own factions of loyal followers in the psychotic science arena that carried on their work. Sorry, this paragraph is turning into its own muse, I need to refocus. Lexx is like that, so much going on that backstory could go on for years.

Back to Boron 7 and government over the League.

Robotic drones in any other type of government on our own earth would be a huge industry of wealth, either for capital venturists or socialist agendas. In the League it had nothing to do with wealth, and the only power allowed at all was Divine Order. In this light, it would seem that top scientists were allowed more freedoms than any other humans in any other capacities. They were free to dream, invent, argue, and corrupt as long as they did it in the name of Order. As long as they helped keep Order rigidly established, they were granted long life, authoritative positions, and all the access to service and equipment that their psychotic hearts desired. So, they became experts at replacing human heads with robot heads, integrating software into scraped out human bodies, growing city sized spaceships that fed on human flesh, you name it, they could find a way to do it. And the more they did it, the more society became clamped down into obedience in lieu of a stunning variety of punishments.

Imagine not knowing if the robotic drone walking by you had been a friend of yours, a coworker, or a family member. That might be their living body, but their head has been replaced with a robot head. Imagine raising your children in a society where you'd never know at any moment whether your future is secure, and that all it would take to lose your life would be to refuse the simplest expectation. Without those psychotic scientists enabling the last Insect, this level of Order could never have been established. Watching both Mantrid and Brizon, they clearly had free will, they clearly didn't feel any regret or shame, and they clearly knew they helped bring all this about. There was no waste on guilt, only on winning at any cost. They were coworkers turned rivals and hellbent on beating the other, no matter how many lives were lost, no matter how horrific their crimes. And surely they were not the only two psychotic scientists in the League of 20,000.

One of the weird fallouts they created was a small planet full of former Divine Shadow host bodies, which would never die but remain zombies forever without a brain or Essence to guide them, since the brain was removed from every host as a Divine Predecessor and the Essence passed on to each new Divine Shadow. We find out in season four that His Shadow had the Time Prophet killed and reconstructed (by scientists, undoubtedly) into the first of many vampires, more deadly than Divine Assassins since they were created specifically to hunt and destroy them, thanks to Kai fulfilling the prophecy. Seasons one and two were rife with convoluted corruption serving Order, including a fully condoned and thriving sex slave business stretching across the Light Universe, along with mercenaries and cabals, often working together for Order as we see in season two's "Stan's Trial".

The sex slave business relied on an amazing machine called a lusticon that could scan and reconstruct entire bodies in one visit without invasive surgeries and recovery time. That machine alone is so over the top that it's too much to think about and easily dismissed. Genetic manipulation theories and applications must have been shared from the Insect to the scientists, because the technology is so advanced and the idea so extreme that I don't think normal psychotic humans could have thought up and conquered that level of planning and execution. Remember, Insects could pass along a sort of programming software via Essence which would allow them to travel dormant over great sweeps of time across swaths of space and pass on information to others or to offspring without having to teach first. Essence would allow for an endless accumulation of knowledge across the universe. We know very little about the Insect Wars, but we do know some Insect technology was adopted by the Brunnen-G after they finally defeated the Insects long before Kai was born.

Lusticons allowed Order to use humans as still-living sex slaves stripped of their wills without transforming them into robotic drones. These slaves were used to manipulate and elicit others' behaviors per temple brothel conduits throughout the League and beyond, and likely part of the vast mercenary trade Order used to hunt and capture enemies of Order. Included in the DNA manipulation were expiry dates, which necessarily created a demand for more.

Robotic drones were everywhere throughout the Light Universe. On the Cluster we see security drones, and across the Light Universe we see other types of robotic drones that look like they came off assembly lines. 790 was one model, 791 and 792 models were briefly shown in a couple of episodes, and 790 created a 769 in season four. The 700 series were all designed to be attached to still living human bodies, as was the security model. Robotic drones were so common that they were simply part of everything, nothing to turn a head and elicit response. Humans grew up surrounded by and interacting with integrated tech for thousands of years. We don't have a timeline between Rockhound becoming the first His Shadow and Brunnis-2 being destroyed, so we don't know how much time as passed as the League of 20,000 planets was being established. This leaves us to wonder how very long ago Kai's people migrated from Brunnis-1, and how in the world they defeated Insects to begin with, after arriving in the Light Universe, and then how quickly after that defeat the last Insect drifted and then burrowed into what would become the Cluster. If you think about it, the Brunnen-G were indirectly responsible for the League being created, because that last surviving Insect wanted revenge. And if you think even more about that, you can imagine the Brunnen-G being the flag of vitriol behind everything His Shadow did, and that might be why they were so famous that Thodin recognized Kai even after he'd been converted into a Divine Assassin.

Aaaaaand this just turned into a think piece. Moving on.

Thanks to protoblood, His Shadow's collection of psychotic scientists were able to resculpt dead human flesh into interactive programmable machinery used as Divine Assassins. Kai is a very good example, as we see in season three. What was left of his body was so integrated with hardware that he obviously couldn't survive long if he were somehow able to come back to life. The protoblood forced his tissues into a sort of unalive living state, an undead state, if you will. His dead body was coopted into an ironic repurposed usefulness, and even after he got his memories back, he could not initiate his own will upon his own body because his will had been severed for vast software storage upgrade. His programming and the will of others was all Kai had as motivation to do anything. A fun example of this is season three's "Tunnels". He simply engaged his programming in order to facilitate being able to accomplish other actions the Lexx crew expected of him. One of his overriding commands in any capacity was to protect the key to the Lexx, along with its crew. (Kai means "Keeper of the Keys" in Scandinavian, for unaware fans. Cool, huh? See more meanings at Behind the Name. This is completely unrelated to Lexx canon, but I searched it since Kai and key are such similar words.)

I've seen and read loads of science fiction over several decades, and I have never seen anything that comes close to the technological horrors in the Lexx series. The Borg are a problem, yes, but they are barely investigated compared to the technological grip over humans in Lexx. The Borg are simply a runaway program, and with time travel introduced, the solution might be simple enough- go to the origin (non-canon but written by Shatner himself) and change history. There is no time travel in Lexx. The Sith are a problem in Star Wars, and the tech somewhat rivals Lexx, but it's missing the more horrific level of what they call the Dark Side. I know, I dare to impugn. I've had a running list of other scifi atrocities compared to Lexx in my mind for years, and I have yet to see another show cross the lines Lexx crosses into true despair, which feels so much more honest to me. I think painting the bigger picture of humans vs technology reaches a superior intellectual level in Lexx that is too easily dismissed, and the crucial point behind it all is innocent humans being so strapped into a locked position in government that there is no wiggle room with rights and wrongs, no way to survive but to obey, no way to fight and win. The root of the science fiction premise shines in Lexx. There is no prime directive, no Asimov's laws of robotics, only horrors and death and the sheer human will to survive. I think the closest an author has come that I've read is Greg Bear. His visuals are fantastic, and he dares to step into despair. I have compared Lexx material to Tim Burton, George Orwell, Dante, and Satre style storytelling. Edward Scissorhands could easily fit into the Light Universe.

And what else do psychotic scientists do when they get bored? They twist the human brain into even more toys. Shreds of brains were used to interface programming, brains were fed to Cluster lizards in a stadium filled with screaming fans loyal to His Shadow, brains were nonchalantly wiped and reprogrammed over minor misdeeds. Any brain lesser than a psychotic genius was subjugated, point blank. It didn't matter the perceived freedom or rank, all brains must serve Order or suffer the consequences. The question of human souls and wills, rights and dignities never even came up. Brains were usable and expendable, like any other human part, and that was all. A sense of self was allowed only in relation to obedience to Order.

Ultimately, the brains of His Shadow's former hosts, the Divine Predecessors, were enshrined, but both Brizon and Mantrid realized that at some point, their own brains would become useless, as well. Mantrid came up with a plan to evacuate his own brain as software into better hardware, and Brizon intended to simply outlast everyone in his own brain. The fate of the Light Universe boiled down to two human brains duking it out, long after His Shadow was destroyed. Well, actually, part of the perversion of Mantrid's transference was being incorporated via Essence, so a copy of His Shadow continued in a corrupted form through him. (One must wonder if Kai were ever purged completely after season two. Also, Vlad lived on into season four.)

This has gotten terribly long, but you can see how much I've thought about this TV show. I know others have spent considerable time writing up backstory, prequels, sequels, spinoff ideas, character synopses, etc. One of the latest to come out is Sanguinessa's fanfic Tales from a Parallel Universe series going deeper behind the scenes with more characters humanizing the extreme conditions we see in the Lexx TV series (click to purchase from Amazon, I receive no compensation for that). I know of other fans who have constructed entire histories around the brief blurbs we see in the show, so they probably think about all this at least as much as I do, if not more.

Since I'm not seeing this level of activity in the older fandom groups and forums, I conclude this is a new generation of fans, possibly who grew up with their parents watching Lexx, possibly running into more accessible film merch now, possibly wondering what that weird sex in space show is all about.
